Avelo Airlines, the budget carrier based in Connecticut, has announced an expansion with five new routes launching in 2025. This development strengthens the airline’s presence in the state while providing passengers with more travel options.

Four of the new routes will depart from Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) in Southern Connecticut. Beginning February, these include flights to Jacksonville, Florida (JAX), Dallas Fort Worth, Texas (DFW), and Detroit, Michigan (DTW). A seasonal route to Portland, Maine (PWM), will launch in May. Additionally, a new international route will connect Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (BDL) to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ), starting February 21.

Avelo’s latest move highlights its focus on offering affordable travel with convenience. Andrew Levy, Avelo Airlines’ founder and CEO, emphasized the airline’s commitment to Connecticut. “We love Connecticut and are excited to continue expanding our presence here with these five new exclusive destinations,” Levy said in a statement. He further noted that Avelo offers unmatched affordability and convenience for Connecticut travelers.

Avelo currently serves two international destinations—Cancún, Mexico (CUN), and Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ)—from BDL. The addition of Punta Cana marks its third international route. These new flights are part of the airline’s broader strategy, bringing its total routes to 39, including 31 from HVN and eight from BDL.

The airline has positioned itself as a cost-effective option for air travel since its launch in 2021. Avelo has flown more than 6 million passengers on over 46,000 flights, with fares starting at $39. Despite its success, Avelo remains a smaller player in the U.S. market than major carriers like Southwest Airlines, American Airlines, and Delta, which reported passenger numbers in the hundreds of millions last year.

Levy expressed optimism about Avelo’s growth, saying, “Avelo’s purpose is to inspire travel, and we are very optimistic about the opportunities ahead of us to make air travel easier, more affordable, and more dependable for people across Connecticut.”

The new routes from HVN will operate twice weekly. Jacksonville flights will begin February 14, followed by Dallas Fort Worth on March 7 and Detroit Metro on April 4. The seasonal service to Portland, Maine, starts May 22. Meanwhile, the Punta Cana route from Hartford will also operate twice weekly, catering to travelers seeking an affordable international getaway.

The airline’s fleet of Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft will serve these routes, ensuring reliability and comfort for passengers.

Since its founding, Avelo has aimed to fill a niche in the U.S. airline market by offering affordable, direct flights from smaller airports. Its steady expansion in Connecticut underscores its strategy of fostering accessibility and affordability.

As Avelo grows, it offers Connecticut residents new travel opportunities while keeping costs low. With nearly three million customers served in just three years, Avelo is carving out its space in the competitive airline industry.
