Southwest Airlines Expands Network with New Routes in California & Florida

Southwest Airlines is expanding its network with two new nonstop routes, strengthening connections in California and Florida. These additions offer travelers more options and enhance the airline’s growing presence in key markets.
Starting October 2, 2025, Southwest will introduce daily nonstop flights between San Diego (SAN) and Fresno (FAT), increasing from its current weekly Saturday service. This route will now operate five days a week, running Thursday through Monday. The expansion aligns with the upcoming terminal launch at San Diego International Airport, improving travel convenience for passengers.
The airline is also enhancing service in Florida by launching nonstop flights between Austin (AUS) and Jacksonville (JAX). Beginning the same day, this route will operate six days a week, Sunday through Friday. These additions support Southwest’s strategy of increasing flights between high-demand destinations.
Beyond these new routes, Southwest is planning additional expansions in the coming months. Travelers will soon see more nonstop options from Austin to Milwaukee (MKE) and Reno (RNO). Nashville (BNA) will introduce a new route to Indianapolis (IND), providing daily nonstop service. Sacramento (SMF) will also gain a weekend route to Tucson (TUS), accommodating both business and leisure travelers.
Southwest is further expanding its international offerings during spring break. Starting March 8, 2025, the airline will launch nonstop flights from Nashville to Punta Cana (PUJ) and Cabo San Lucas (SJD). Additionally, Sacramento (SMF) will introduce a new Saturday service to Puerto Vallarta (PVR), complementing its existing flights to Los Cabos.
These route expansions reflect Southwest’s commitment to improving connectivity and providing travelers with more choices. By strengthening its domestic and international network, the airline continues to meet the increasing demand for both business and vacation travel.
